How To Make The Best Brownie Mix In A Jar Made From Scratch Gift Idea

Ingredients

1 Cup Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 Cup Flour
1/3 Cup Cocoa Powder
Labels

  • Chocolate: Cocoa powder is used in this brownie mix.  If you want a darker chocolate try this dark cocoa version.
  • Flour: These brownies are fudgy because of the amount of flour.  The more flour, the more chewy the brownie.  Try my recipe for making your own self-rising flour.
  • Sugar: 1 Cup of granulated sugar works best with this brownie mix.  (no sugar substitutes)

Instructions

  • Mix everything together and put in a jar, or put ingredients in the jar one at a time in layers.
  • Tie a ribbon around the jar and a label for cooking instructions.

TO MAKE THE BROWNIES:

  • Add to dry ingredients:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1t. vanilla
  • Mix well. Pour in 9×9 pan and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.

What makes brownies fudgy vs cakey?

There’s a higher fat-to-flour ratio for fudgy brownies vs. cakey ones. If you add more flour, your brownies will be more cakey.  Flour relies on baking powder for leavening, but sugar and eggs do not affect fudgy or cakey like brownies.

Are brownies better with oil or butter?

Using either oil or butter in brownies you will get a moist brownie.  The difference between oil and butter in brownies is cake like brownies or fudge like brownies. For cake like brownies use butter.  For fudge like brownies use butter.

You can also substitute one for the other.  If a recipe calls for oil you can substitute for butter, but add 2 minutes to the cooking time to maintain the same flavor and texture.
