Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

I’m fairly new to cooking in the Instant Pot, but now that I have I prefer it every time over the hot stove, dirtying up so many dishes.  I love cooking with an Instant Pot because there is less mess and the food never tasted so good.

Why Do The Eggs Taste Better Cooked In An Instant Pot?

It’s steamed rather then cooked in liquid over the stove. Stove top cooking can release vital nutrients and vitamins from the food, not to mention flavor!

Cooking with an Instant Pot the nutrients stay in the food because the lid is sealed and the steam never leaves the food.

The other thing I love about cooking with an Instant Pot is most meals you add the entire ingredients in the pot all at once, cooking everything at the same time. This means less dirty dishes to virtually no mess!

How Do You Make Hard Boiled Eggs In The Instant Pot?

Cooking eggs in the instant pot is the easiest thing I’ve ever made.  There’s no boiling water on the stove or picking the shells to get them off.

You will need an Instant Pot trivet that came with your Instant Pot or an  Instant Pot basket, or Instant Pot egg basket. You don’t want to “cook” the eggs, you want to steam them.

Add your eggs. You can make 1/2 dozen or 1 dozen eggs this way.  The cooking time is still the same.

Next, you will add 1 cup of cold water.  Make sure it’s cold water, not room temperature or hot water.

Secure the lid tightly as directed by the manufacturer.

How Long Does It Take To Make Hard Boiled Eggs In The Instant Pot?

5 Minutes!  That’s it.  After you have secured the lid on tightly, press the Pressure Cook button and set it for 5 minutes.   Whether you’re using a 3 qt. pot or 6 qt. pot, you only need to cook them for 5 minutes.

If you’re cooking 1/2 dozen or 1 dozen you will still cook them for 5 minutes.

When eggs are done cooking, release pressure immediately by using a wooden spoon to move the valve from SEALED to VENTING.  Once all steam is released, place eggs in a bowl of ice cold water until cooled, about 5 minutes.

Remove shells by cracking the eggs, I roll them on the counter then run them under the faucet.  The shells come right off.

Leave shells on until you are ready to eat them.

When you make hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot the shells slide right off.  There’s no picking off the shells with your fingernails.  They literally slide right off.

Roll them on the counter to crack the shell then run them under the faucet, the shells slide right off.

Store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

How Many Eggs Can You Boil In An Instant Pot?

You can boil 2-12 eggs at a time in the instant pot.

What Is The Instant Pot 5-5-5 Method?

After you add the water, place the trivet inside and place your eggs on top of the trivet,

The 5-5-5 method is:

  • Seal the Instant Pot as directed by the manufacturer and cook on High Pressure for 5 minutes.
  • Let the Instant Pot naturally release steam for 5 minutes
  • Put the eggs in an ice water bath to cool them for 5 minutes.
