Creamy Taco Puffs-Finger Foods {beef or chicken}

Pillsbury crescent rolls have always been a big deal at my house. Everyone loves them and they make good finger food dishes! Turn messy taco’s into a Taco puff and now you have a finger food that’s not messy!

You can easily make these with beef or chicken.

Creamy Taco Puffs-Finger Foods {beef or chicken}

Ingredients

  • Beef or chicken
  • 1 tube crescent rolls. You can use either the jumbo size or regular size rolls.
  • I used the regular size rolls because that's what I already had on hand.
  • 1 onion
  • 1 Can black beans
  • 1 pkg. Cream Cheese
  • 1 pkg. cheese
  • 1 pkg. Taco seasoning mix
  • Hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook beef with onion. Drain and rinse to get rid of grease!! Add taco mix and 1/4 water and simmer 5-10 minutes. Add black beans and cream cheese. I put hot sauce in my meat mixture, so I added about 1 cup of hot sauce, too. Simmer another 5-10 minutes.
  2. Prepare crescent rolls:
  3. Lay out the rolls on your pan. Put one scoop of meat mixture onto roll. Wrap short ends around meat mixture and pinch dough together. Roll long end over and under bring it up on the other side. Pinch any loose ends together.
  4. Sprinkle a little cheese on top.
  5. Bake 10-15 minutes.

  3. Thinking of using cooked spanish rice and 4 blend mexican cheese instead of sour cream/cream cheese? Do you think it would be too dry?

    • Oh, that sounds good! I think it will be ok, because there is a small amount of juice in the black beans and you also add a small amount of water 1/4 cup at the most to the meat and taco seasoning mixture, so those two things help blend everything together. You don’t want it too liquidy for the crescent rolls, so I think it will be fine. Let me know how it turns out. :)

  4. This looks like such a fun way to eat tacos (and a lot cleaner)! I love crescent rolls and can’t wait to give these a try!

  7. These look really good! I used to make some empanadas with biscuit dough but these look even better with the buttery crescents.

  8. Good Afternoon Marti, I am a keen baker, but I have never made Taco puffs. Can I ask, is the pastry shortcrust pastry, as I would love to try this recipe, but using home made pastry.
    It is so different from anything I normally make, so it will be fun to try this recipe.
    Marti, I have become a G+ follower and I would like to invite you to visit me at Ivy, Phyllis and Me! when you have a moment.
    Best Wishes to you,

    • Hello Daphne! Thank you for the follow, it is very nice to meet you! I will stop by and return the follow. :) The Taco Puffs were made using the Pillsbury store bought crescent rolls that come in a can. If you wanted to make your dough, I would use a very light and flaky pastry bread similar to a very light pie crust. I hope I answered your question.

  9. Thanks for sharing at the Thursday SWEET HAUTE Share Linky Party at the SWEET HAUTE Blog! Definitely going to try to make, sounds good…!!!!

  10. stephanie says:

    do you use cream cheese or sour cream in these puffy tacos, the ingredients shows cream cheese but in the instructions you state sour cream.

    • You use cream cheese. I’m used to using sour cream I just typed it that way, lol but this recipe calls for cream cheese. It’s very good with cream cheese! But if you have a preference, you can use either one. :) If you make it, I’d love to know how it turns out!

  18. I love that you made these with beef and beans! I’ve always been afraid they’d be too greasy with beef - I may need to try this next time we make them.
